Garlic Naan
This culinary masterpiece combines the soft and fluffy texture of traditional naan bread with the aromatic allure of fresh garlic.
Ingredients
- ¼ cup warm water
- 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
- 1 ½ teaspoons active dry yeast or instant rapid rise
- ¾ cup warm milk
- ¾ cup yogurt
- ¼ cup vegetable oil plus 2 tablespoons extra for cooking
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 4 cups plain flour plus extra for dusting
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine water, sugar, and yeast, allowing the mixture to sit for 5-10 minutes until it starts bubbling on top.
- Add milk, yogurt, oil, minced garlic, flour, baking powder, and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix the ingredients with your hands until a dough forms.
- Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead with floured hands until smooth, approximately 3 to 5 minutes.
- Lightly grease the original mixing bowl with a spray of cooking oil. Place the dough in the bowl, cover it with plastic wrap, and let it rest at room temperature for about an hour until it doubles in size.
- When ready to cook, divide the dough into 10 equal pieces, rolling each into balls. Use a bellna/rolling pin to flatten each piece into a large oval, approximately 6 inches long and 1/8 inch thick.
- Heat a large cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Grease the skillet with 1/2 teaspoon of oil.
- Place one piece of naan on the oiled skillet and cook for 1-2 minutes until bubbles form on top. Brush the top with a little oil while cooking.
- Flip the naan and cook for another 1-2 minutes until large golden spots appear on the bottom.
- Remove the naan from the skillet and wrap it in a clean kitchen towel. Repeat the process with the remaining pieces of naan.
