  • 2 tbsp jam
  • 2 tbsp marmalade optional
  • 1 tsp arrowroot
  • 1 tsp cornstarch optional
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • Food coloring optional

Instructions

Prepare the Base

  • In a saucepan, combine the water, jam or marmalade, sugar, and lemon juice.

  • Simmer the mixture over medium heat for 7–10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Strain the Mixture

  • Remove the saucepan from the heat and strain the liquid through a fine mesh strainer to remove solids, ensuring a smooth sauce.

Thicken the Sauce

  • In a small bowl, mix the arrowroot or cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of cold water until it forms a smooth paste.

  • Gradually add the hot jam mixture to the paste, whisking continuously to combine.

Boil and Finish

  • Return the mixture to the saucepan and bring it to a boil, cooking for 3 minutes until thickened and glossy.
